Neutralization of Viruses by Homologous Immune Serum
نویسنده
چکیده
On the assumption that antibody is added to virus particles in a stepwise manner and that the reaction follows the law of mass action, a theoretical equation for the equilibrium state of virus neutralization reactions has been deduced. The theory has been found to be in reasonable accord with the available data for the neutralization of bacterial viruses and can be applied also to data for the neutralization of animal viruses.

A Sensitive Neutralization Assay for Influenza C Viruses Based on the Acetylesterase Activity HEF Glycoprotein
Influenza C virus possesses specific neuraminate-O-acetylesterase as a receptor-destroying function. This enzymatic activity of the viral glycoprotein HEF (Hemagglutinin, esterase activity and fusion factor) can be visualized in situ by the use of distinct color substrates. Hereby the localization, as well as the quantity of synthesized HEF protein is detectable. We further developed the estera...
متن کاملClassification of North American porcine enteroviruses: a comparison with European and Japanese strains.
Seventy-two strains of porcine enteroviruses including strains from North America, England, and Japan were compared by cell culture neutralization tests to provide a serological classification of North American strains. From the tests, eight serogroups evolved, with serogroup 8 having a possible three subgroups. There appeared to be some intergroup relationship among certain viruses in groups h...

Under natural conditions, reactions between viruses and antibodies occur in living host tissues. Because of the importance of such reactions in immunity to virus infections, much attention has been directed toward them. The most nearly natural model which is available for detailed study in the laboratory appears to be the reaction in which the infectivity of a virus is neutralized by homologous...
متن کاملGlycoprotein N of Human Cytomegalovirus Protects the Virus from Neutralizing Antibodies
Herpes viruses persist in the infected host and are transmitted between hosts in the presence of a fully functional humoral immune response, suggesting that they can evade neutralization by antiviral antibodies. Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) encodes a number of polymorphic highly glycosylated virion glycoproteins (g), including the essential envelope glycoprotein, gN. We have tested the hypothes...
متن کاملCo-delivery of GPI-anchored CCL28 and influenza HA in chimeric virus-like particles induces cross-protective immunity against H3N2 viruses.
Influenza infection typically initiates at respiratory mucosal surfaces. Induction of immune responses at the sites where pathogens initiate replication is crucial for the prevention of infection. We studied the adjuvanticity of GPI-anchored CCL28 co-incorporated with influenza HA-antigens in chimeric virus-like particles (cVLPs), in boosting strong protective immune responses through an intran...
